# Versions and compatibility

> What Quivr 2.x keeps stable, what can change between releases, and which features are still experimental.

Quivr releases are numbered `MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH`, such as `2.1.3`. This page says what you can rely on from one 2.x release to the next.

## The HTTP API

The API keeps the `/v0` path for every 2.x release. The name is historical: from 2.0.0 on, `/v0` is the stable API.

Within 2.x, a release may **add** to the API:

* new endpoints;
* new optional request fields;
* new fields in responses;
* new values in fields that list kinds, such as event types, error codes or receipt outcomes.

So write clients that ignore fields and event types they do not know, as [Follow changes](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/guides/follow-changes.md#what-the-notices-mean) already recommends.

A change that could break a working client waits for the next major release: removing or renaming an endpoint or field, making an optional field required, or changing what a response means. The [changelog](https://github.com/The-Vibe-Company/quivr/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md) lists every change under its release, with breaking changes first.

## Plugins

A plugin declares which Plugin API versions it supports in its manifest (`compatibility.plugin_api`). Quivr refuses to pin or activate a plugin whose range it does not support, and `quivr plugin inspect` reports the result before you try. The changelog marks every change that asks plugin authors to act. [The plugin manifest reference](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/reference/plugin-manifest.md) lists the fields.

## Upgrading

Upgrades between 2.x releases keep your data in place: run the new `quivr migrate`, then roll the worker and the API, as [Upgrade Quivr](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/run-quivr/upgrade-quivr.md) describes. Read each release's notes first; they name any extra step.

Pre-releases (`2.0.0-alpha.N`) are not covered. To move from an alpha to 2.0.0, start a fresh installation, or export your documents from the old one and send them again to the new one.

## Stable and experimental features

Everything documented on this site is stable within 2.x, except the features below. An experimental feature works and is tested, but its settings, endpoints or behaviour may still change in a minor release. Its page, or its section, says so.

| Experimental feature | Page |

| Search measurements, load tests and search campaigns | [Record search measurements](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/run-quivr/record-search-measurements.md), [Run local load tests](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/run-quivr/run-local-load-tests.md), [Run a search campaign](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/run-quivr/run-search-campaign.md) |
| Re-ranking deep searches with Jev | [Re-rank deep searches with Jev](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/run-quivr/rerank-with-jev.md) |

| The `quivr-autoscaler` binary | [The quivr-autoscaler binary](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/run-quivr/deploy.md#the-quivr-autoscaler-binary) |

[Known limits](https://docs.quivr.thevibecompany.co/reference/known-limits.md) lists what Quivr 2.0 does not do yet.
